My latest favorite read is "Exploring Fundamentally Three-dimensional Phenomena in High-fidelity Simulations of Core-collapse Supernovae" by Evan O'Connor and Sean Couch, where they explode the MESA progenitor models presented in Farmer et al 2016. Among other goodies, they find a 3D progenitor structure leaves an imprint on the gravitational waves from supernovae that may be detectable by LIGO.
