On Variations in the Peak Luminosity of Type Ia Supernovae Why is there a variation in the mass of Ni56 produced by white dwarf supernovae? In this letter we explore how variations in the metallicity of the progenitor yield variations in the mass of Ni56 ejected, hence variations in the luminosity.
